DESCRIPTION OF TECHNIQUE
My paintings are made up of acrylic paint, hardboard, and a product called Wood Icing. Wood is my preferred surface to paint on because I need a rigid surface for my rigorous painting style. Wood also has a stronger surface to withhold the texture medium I use. Thin wood is best for keeping the weight of the painting down.

I love acrylics because they dry quickly, they enable me to paint in bright, pure colors, and because they dont' require solvents to use them. Acrylics can be challenging because they dry so fast, and are not forgiving of mistakes. Oddly enough, that is the main reason I use them. I like that I don't have to wait long for the paint to dry, because I like to paint in layers. It is so thrilling to use the transparent quality of acrylics juxtaposed with the opaque nature of the paint. I am fascinated with how I can place pure forms of color together to create a vibrant effect. This effects me, and I hope, the viewer on an emotional level.

The texture medium I periodically use is called Wood Icing. It can be found on www.woodicing.com. This product provides me with an affordable alternative to adding texture to my paintings. It is nice to work with and on.
